Best Ways to Organize Games and puzzles

Games and puzzle are the best … the boxes just take up so much dang space! The truth is that they don’t need to - you can have your games/puzzles and keep them in a space conscious way.

Store vertically

Treat your games and puzzles like books and store them vertically on a shelf. Unless you’re only stacking two, reaching anything on the bottom of a pile is so tricky. By storing your board game and puzzle boxes vertically, you’ll be able to easily see each box and you won’t have to play a game of Jenga every time you want a box from the bottom of a pile.

Decant games and puzzles

This is a huuuuuge space saver! Board games and puzzles often come in boxes that have tons of wasted space. Take your board games and puzzles out of the boxes and store in vinyl mesh bags.

You can choose to cut out the title from the box if you like that visual cue to the contents. If that feels like too much work or if you like a more minimalist, streamline look, simply add matching labels.

What about all the little pieces?

What do I do with the little tokens, cards, and little game pieces you ask? Bags inside of bags is your answer! Simply putting those smaller pieces into a smaller bag (inside the larger bag) works beautifully.

Now, of course, there are some board game boxes that are designed with the contents in mind. In those cases, the box is probably the best storage place for your game and that is fine! There are no rules, just to do what works best for you and your belongings!

Pro Tip for Puzzles

You definitely need a picture of the puzzle to finish the puzzle!

Make sure to cut out the front of the box and/or any images of the finished puzzle that the box contains. It never hurts to have an extra image to refer to when finishing a puzzle. If you lose one, no problem! If you have more than one person working on the puzzle, they can each have their own reference image.

You can either tape the image to the front of the bag or simply tuck the image into the bag with the puzzle pieces - whatever works best for you!

How Do I store the Bags?

I recommend placing the bags into a bin or basket. You can also just file them on a shelf like you would books!
